The Michelin Guide has introduced Michelin Grapes, a new distinction for evaluating vineyards and wine producers globally, expanding its expertise beyond restaurants and hotels.
What it is:
- A rating system awarding One, Two or Three Grapes to wine estates based on excellence.
- Additionally, a “Selected” category highlights notable producers worth regular review.
The Grapes Explained:
- Three Grapes: Exceptional producers whose wines can be trusted across vintages.
- Two Grapes: Excellent producers standing out in quality and consistency.
- One Grape: Very good producers with characteristic wines, especially in strong vintages.
- Selected: Reliable producers offering quality experiences worthy of review.
How the Ratings Work — Five Criteria:
- Agronomy Quality: Soil, vine health and vineyard care.
- Technical Mastery: Winemaking precision and skill.
- Identity: Expression of place and personality in wine.
- Balance: Harmony of acidity, alcohol, tannins and oak.
- Consistency: Quality across multiple vintages.
Launch & Scope:
- The first Michelin Grapes selections will debut in 2026 in Burgundy and the Bordeaux region of France, with future global expansion planned.
